PSUSD students, staff welcome new school year

It was back to school for students and teachers in the Palm Springs Unified School District Thursday.

Students learned the rules of the school on their first day. They weren’t the only ones with back-to-school jitters.

“Very emotional. I think I was more worried than she was,” said parent Aubrey Vig.

“She’s never left my side for five years. It was harder on me than it was on her,” said parent Renee Lara.

PSUSD kicked off the school earlier than before. Now all schools and grade levels are officially on the same calendar.
Some parents pulled out little ways to make the first day extra special.

“I tucked a little love note in her lunch even though she can’t read. I read it to her,” said Lara.

To start and end the school year on a good note, be on time, follow school policies and parents get involved.

“I just like to stay plugged in because you need that parent-teacher cooperation for the success of your child in school. It starts now,” said Lara.

Overall, it was a successful and emotional first day at school.

“She did well. She loved it. I’m so happy she’s learning,” said Vig.

School starts Aug. 20 for the Coachella Valley Unified School District.

The Desert Sands Unified School District starts school Aug. 26.
