Local woman victim in OSU homecoming parade crash
The horrific scene that rocked the town of Stillwater Oklahoma, last weekend has one local woman recovering Friday.
We spoke exclusively with one of the victims who was hit by the car that careened into the Oklahoma State University homecoming parade crowd.
“I remember we were watching the parade, and I heard someone yell, ‘Look out!” and I turned around, and I saw a car right behind me, and I don’t remember a whole lot after that,” said Mary Cardinal, who lives in La Quinta.
Cardinal was visiting her daughter, Amanda, a freshmen at OSU, for homecoming.
“They are supposed to have the biggest and greatest homecoming, so I really wanted to go back because I hadn’t seen her since August,” Cardinal said.
During the parade, Cardinal and her daughter made a decision that would ultimately save their lives
“I’d say 20 minutes before the lady came crashing through, we moved out of the direct line of impact from her car. We’d moved over to see better,” Cardinal said.
Next thing she remembers, she was on the side of the road.
Cardinal suffered five fractures in her pelvic and hip area and is confined to her couch for the next few weeks.
Despite her injuries, she said she’s happy to be alive.
“I couldn’t stop crying, because I kept thinking, you know, what if I died and my daughter saw it or what if she got hurt? So it definitely makes you think a lot about that,” Cardinal said.
Cardinal said this horrific event won’t keep her away from OSU. She plans to go back for homecoming next year.
