Mr. & Mrs. Claus’s Xmas gifts stolen in Indio
One Valley community is rallying together after the Grinch stole Santa’s Christmas.
News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 have learned Mr. and Mrs. Claus’s groceries and gifts were stolen from their driveway in Indio Thursday.
Mrs. Claus had just gone inside to get Santa’s help carrying everything and by the time they came back, everything was gone. Everything was stolen, except for their Christmas spirit.
“I was heartbroken, I was really heartbroken,” said Mrs. Claus.
During the holidays, Frank and Dorothy Crain are known to the community as Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus. You might have seen them in Coachella’s light parade.
“The look on the kids’ faces when we walk through the door is just priceless,” said Dorothy Crain.
“It’s kinda a way of giving back what I was given as a kid. We just love Christmas,” said Frank Crain.
Thursday, Dorothy came home with a car full of groceries and gifts for their grandkids.
“I parked the car in the driveway, opened the back hatch, opened the side door and came in to come and get him because I couldn’t bring them in,” said Dorothy Crain.
When they came back out, everything was gone.
“It was less than five minutes and my car was cleaned out. They even took my package of toilet paper,” she said.
“These two Grinches came by and stole our Christmas. What really hurt me was Mrs. Claus crying,” said Frank Crain.
The couple lives on a fixed income and have no money to replace what was stolen.
“I just didn’t know what I was going to do,” said Dorothy Crain.
Their son set up aGo Fund Me accountjust to help them get through the month, till their next check comes in. Then a Christmas miracle not even Santa was expecting.
“I’m completely overwhelmed,” said Frank Crain.
The donations started pouring in; within hours, the $350 stolen was a distant memory.
“It kind of means Christmas to me, what’s happened. This Christmas is really going to be a special Christmas in my memories,” said Crain.
Santa does have a message for other shoppers this holiday season.
“I just want everybody to be extra careful because there are people out there that either don’t understand the spirit of Christmas or are so desperate to make their way to get by that they feel they have to go steal stuff from other people,” said Crain.
“I won’t ever pull up and open my car up like that again,” said Dorothy Crain.
Keep your doors locked, and be aware of your surroundings, but never lose your Christmas spirit.
“It taught us a lesson. It taught us that there are people in the world that still care about each other,” said Frank Crain
In true Santa fashion, the Crains plan to use the extra money donated to give more underprivileged kids a merry Christmas.
