Alleged molestation victim files complaint against DSUSD
Robert Keith Bryan pleaded guilty last week to four felony counts of lewd acts on a child and four misdemeanor counts of molesting a child. Bryan taught fourth grade at Gerald Ford Elementary in Indian Wells. Bryan also ran the math club. Now one of the victims is in the process of suing Desert Sands Unified School District.
The beginnings of a lawsuit were filed on Wednesday against the DSUSD and the former principal of Gerald Ford Elementary School, Theresa Kachiroubas.
“We were able to obtain just incredibly shocking and disturbing evidence,” said Ben Meiselas, an attorney with Geragos & Geragos representing the victim, who is now a 16 years old and is identified in the complaint as L.F.
According to Meiselas and documents from DSUSD, Bryan was disciplined by the district in the 1990s at least three times for inappropriately touching female students, but was never fired.
“Desert Sands Unified School District was aware of Mr. Bryan’s conduct. They tried to conceal that from parents by shifting him to different schools and shockingly and sadly the school district was complacent in the molestation of children,” said Meiselas.
Also named in the complaint is the former Gerald Ford Elementary Principal Teresa Kachiroubas who gave testimony in 2015.
“Then you have the principal at Gerald Ford Elementary where Bryan was transferred saying it didn’t concern her at all the backgrounds or disciplinary issues regarding teachers and she simply didn’t inquire,” said Meiselas.
We contracted the school district and representatives told us DSUSD does not give comment on current litigation. They did tell us Kachiroubas retired in 2012.
