Child recovering after near drowning in north Indio

A small child was recovering Monday following a near drowning in Indio.

A Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman said the toddler had stable vital signs when medics arrived at a home along the 79000 block Dewsbury Drive at 7:45 p.m. Sunday.

The girl had reportedly slipped out of her floatation device in a backyard swimming pool— and went under water.

Indio Police Sergeant Dan Marshall said the floatation device was a “Puddle Jumper” life vest, which buckles around the waist and includes attached arm “floaties.”

The girl was unresponsive when pulled from the water.

She was taken by ambulance to a local hospital where she was checked out.

There was no updated word on her condition.

Indio police said they are investigating.
