Coachella sidewalk project completed around Rancho Las Flores Park
Construction of the sidewalk around Rancho Las Flores Park is complete and the long-awaited walkway is now open to pedestrians, according to Coachella city officials. The project, aimed at revitalizing the city through new sidewalks and murals, launched in March.
The half-mile stretch of sidewalk, on the east side of Van Buren Street between avenues 48 and 49, is part of an effort by the City of Coachella to improve access and safety for residents. Crews began working on the new sidewalk, curb, gutter, signage and street striping in May.
“This sidewalk and others that are being built throughout the city will expand connectivity, give safe access to the park and contribute to improved tourism,” Coachella Mayor Steven Hernandez said.
The City received a $75,000 grant through the State’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Facilities Program, administered through the Riverside County Transportation Commission. The remaining $64,000 for the project came from development impact fees paid to the city, according to the release.
