Overnight construction closes eastbound I-10 freeway lanes
Update: 5:55 a.m. All freeway lanes have been reopened and traffic is back up to speed on Interstate 10 in Indio at the Jefferson Street interchange.
———–
An overnight freeway closure was slowing traffic along Interstate 10 in Indio early Wednesday morning.
Eastbound freeway traffic was being detoured off the freeway at the Jefferson Street exit and onto a frontage road as crews work on a new bridge under construction at the Jefferson Street Interchange.
Westbound I-10 traffic moving well, but also down to a single lane.
Motorists hoping to enter the freeway from Indio Boulevard or Jefferson Street were being detoured to Washington Street or Monroe.
Eastbound traffic was expected to be detoured until the project wrapped up for the day by 6:00 a.m. Tuesday.
No major delays were being reported as of 4:00 a.m., but there was some traffic backing up in the eastbound lanes toward Washington Street.
Motorists were urged to use caution.
