Katie Widner – CBS Local 2 Anchor & Reporter

A SoCal native, Katie Widner is excited to be back in the southland after spending two years as an evening anchor and special assignment reporter at KFBB in Great Falls, MT. While in big sky country, Katie covered courts, crime and educational news. She also hosted a daily segment that spotlighted good causes and positive events in the community and regularly hosted art events downtown.

Katie has wanted to “do the news” for as long as she can remember. As a child, she would dress up in her sister’s prom dresses to watch the Oscars and mimick the red carpet correspondents. In high school, she anchored the televised morning announcements. Katie graduated from California State University, Fullerton in 2011, where she was president of the campus journalism society and spent a Summer studying communications in Florence, Italy. Prior to graduation, she was sent as a university-correspondent, reporting in rural northern-Vietnam. Post graduation, Katie interned at Entertainment Tonight.

Growing up in Orange County, Katie spent many weekends and holidays with her family in Palm Desert. Some of her fondest memories include ice skating inside the mall, taking the tram up the mountain to see the snow, and enjoying a long, hot day at- what was then called- the Oasis Water Park. In her free time, she enjoys sporting events (Go Anaheim Ducks!), reading the news and being with her family.

Katie joined the news team in August of 2016. You can watch her anchor the evening, weekend newscasts on CBS Local 2 and around town reporting during the week. If you have a compelling story you’d like to share with her, or would just like to say hello,. shoot her an email at katie.widner@cbslocal2.com.
