Hundreds ‘run from the law’ in Palm Springs

Roughly 1,300 people were on the run from the law in Palm Springs on Saturday morning.

The “Running from the Law for a Good Cause 5K,” is sponsored by the Palm Springs Police Officers’ Association, benefits the Palm Springs Officers’ Memorial Fund.

This year’s event honored fallen officers Lesley Zerebny and Gil Vega, as well as all of the 140 law enforcement heroes who died in the line of duty in 2016. The morning began with a moment of silence for the 20 officers already lost in 2017.

The run took participants through the old movie colony neighborhood. Three squads of recruits from the San Bernardino Sheriffs Academy attended and were provided flags to carry on their run.

The annual 5K “Run for Ike” will be held April 1. That event benefits the PSPD K-9 fund.
