Construction closes WB I-10 at Jefferson

UPDATE as of 5:15 a.m.: Freeway westbound lanes have reopened to traffic and are back up to speed.

————————

Westbound Interstate 10 was closed to all traffic late Wednesday and early Thursday morning at the Jefferson Street Interchange construction project.

All Westbound lanes were expected to be closed during the overnight construction project.

The #1 and #2 lanes were also closed on the Eastbound side for a time, but were open to all traffic early Thursday morning.

As of 4:00 a.m. westbound freeway traffic was being detoured off the interstate at the new Jefferson Street exit and being detoured to Varner Road, then west to Washington Street where traffic was reentering the freeway.

Crews were working to demolish the old Indio Boulevard freeway overpass and were working on the underside of the new Jefferson bridge, blocking westbound lanes.

Roads were expected to be reopened at 6:00 a.m.
