Firefighters contain vegetation fire in Mecca

Firefighters contained a 15 acre vegetation fire that broke out early Thursday morning in Mecca.

Cal Fire announced that the flames were put out at 4:11 p.m.

The fire broke out shortly after 5:40 a.m. in the area of Avenue 64 and Dale Kiler Road.

At 11:20 a.m. the fire was at 5 to 7 acres, at 25% containment, according to a Cal Fire Battalion Chief on scene.

Imperial Irrigation District was on scene and disconnected the power in the area of the fire, leaving 238 residents without power .

The fire was burning in heavy brush within a 20 acre parcel of a former grape vineyard.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
