Valentine’s Day sales trending up

Valentine’s Day could shape up to be a busy day for retailers with people looking to get last minute gifts. Sales on the holiday are trending up in recent years.

According to the National Retail Federation, shoppers will spend about 145 dollars each on Valentine’s Day gifts, which is about seven dollars more than last year. A total of 19.6 billion dollars will be spent in total across the country.

Those celebrating Valentine’s Day plan to spend about 90 dollars on their significant others, while kids and parents are getting roughly 25 dollars worth of stuff. Most plan to allocate around 7 dollars for teachers and friends, and dogs will get a little something to the tune of about 6 dollars. Average jewelry sales could hit 4.7 billion dollars. 2 billion is expected to go for flowers with 1.8 billion going to candy and $894 million could be spent on Valentine’s Day cards.
