Scammers use name of Coachella Valley priest in text fundraising scheme
News Channel 3 has received reports of people receiving text messages, which we are told include the name of a Coachella Valley priest, who appears to be soliciting donations for a fundraising campaign.
We have spoken with the priest, who says the campaign is bogus, and also tells us his name has been used in similar efforts in the past.
News Channel 3’s Tom Tucker will be speaking with the priest today to learn more about the scam, and will speak with law enforcement to find out what anyone should do to avoid being duped.
