Police searching for suspects in Palm Springs home shooting
Officers from the Palm Springs Police Department are continuing to investigate a report of an unlawful discharge of a firearm in Palm Springs.
According to PSPD, officers were notified of shots fired near a home on the 700 block of Desert Way today just before 9 a.m.
A home and a vehicle parked outside were struck by gunfire. Two women and two children were in the home at the time of the shooting. No injuries were reported.
PSPD confirmed a car drove by and shot the home in a targeted situation. Investigators are following up on possible leads, no suspect description has been released at this time.
This shooting occurred in the same neighborhood where a man shot and killed three teens and a 25-year-old man in February.

The truck where suspect hid from police could be seen just across the street from the home that was shot today.
Police calling the recent spike in gun violence out of the ordinary.
” Generally, this area does not expect or really see these types of crimes of violence on a regular occurrence so this close in proximity is really a rarity and kind of unusual, ” said PSPD Lt. Hutchinson.
Police said it is currently too soon to rule out the possibility that the two shootings are connected.
There have not been arrests made in several other recent shooting deaths in the city including, a murder outside Zelda’s Nightclub in January, the shooting death of a 23-year-old in December, and a Cathedral City man from Kenya shot and killed while driving in September.
This weekend, there was a shooting outside of Toucan’s Tiki Lounge that left two men injured. The shooter remains on the loose.
As far as actions the Palm Springs City Council is taking to reduce the recurring gun violence, council member Lisa Middleton said they are looking to the murder at Zelda’s as an example.
” We have suspended their operation for 45 days and as to whether they will reopen again, it is solely dependent on our police department confirming that they absolutely have a safety plan in place, ” Middleton said. ” We will do the same thing with any other facility in Palm Springs. ”
Middleton said Toucan’s was proactive when it came to security measures and the city isn’t planning on taking action against them like they did Zelda’s.
Palm Springs has passed gun ordinances in recent years.
In 2016, the city council began requiring that guns be kept locked or disabled. Those with concealed carry permits have to keep guns in the car trunk, out of sight, or in a locked case.
