A magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck near Ridgecrest at approximately 6:32 p.m. Wednesday, according to the United States Geological Survey. The earthquake was felt around much of southern California including in the Coachella Valley. The earthquake was initially recorded as a Magnitude 5.1, but the USGS upgraded it to a Magnitude 5.5 a few minutes later.
