Locals report increase in water boatmen bugs in pools
Several viewers have written in to News Channel 3 telling us about an increase in water boatmen bugs in their pools.
The Coachella Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District says water boatmen have become a seasonal issue here when we have monsoon-like conditions. The insects are not dangerous and are not a threat to your health.
Officials say that there are easy things to do -- to keep them away from your yard.
"Keep your swimming pool cover closed and use make sure you can, if you can, turn off your light system, so they don't find that it's an attractive place to continue being reproducing," said
Officials also say to make sure your pool is properly chlorinated. They say the boatmen will not survive well in a well-maintained pool.
