Students hit the books at CVUSD

Coachella Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) is welcoming students back to the classroom on Thursday for the 2023-2024 school year.

Despite Tropical Storm Hilary causing destruction to many Coachella roadways, school is proceeding on. District staff want their families to make sure they are planning their route ahead of time to arrive before the bell rings.

Dr. Francis Esparza, the Assistant Superintendent of Education Services at CVUSD, said the district has exciting things in store from new math and science programs to allowing children on campus at an earlier time.

Over at Coral Mountain Academy, students stormed the front gates with their parents for the first day. Many parents are excited their child is making the return, and students are happy to see their friends again.

Second-grade parent Juan Antonio Galaviz said this was the first year his son was starting at the school, and can't wait to see what's in store.

“I preach school to him even though it’s a little tough," he said. "He’s going through some growing pains especially going to a new place, but I love to see him making friends.”
