Elm Fire burns more than 60 acres in Cabazon

Original Report 3:30 p.m.

Flames were first reported in Cabazon South of the I-10 in the hills near Ida and Helen Avenue around 9:20 a.m. Saturday morning.

As of 2:30 p.m. the flames spanned 65 acres and the fire was 15% contained.

Cal Fire reports the forward rate of spread has been stopped, and crews will continue to work on containing the fire throughout the night.

Several agencies including Idyllwild, Morongo, Murrieta and Soboba Fire Departments were on scene.

Officials also reported that winds blowing throughout the area were affecting their ability to fight the fire early Saturday.

An evacuation warning was issued around noon, but has since been lifted.

There are no reported injuries at this time, and the cause of the fire remains unknown.
