Section 14 organizers urge Palm Springs for a resolution during a closed council session
The survivors and decedents of Section 14 plan to gather in numbers at the Palm Springs City Council closed session on January 25th.
The land being discussed is a one-square-mile tract in downtown Palm Springs, California, that people lived on between 1930 and 1965. Section 14 was part of the reservation belonging to the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians. It became a battleground over issues of tribal sovereignty, land zoning, leasing, economics, and race.
Organizers and supporters plan to meet at 3:30 pm at the City Hall, Council Chamber. The address is 3200 East Tahquitz Canyon Way, Palm Springs. "We're showing up in a big way," says a supporter.
