Cathedral City City Council takes a hard look at its 5 year strategic plan at the Doubletree by Hilton
Cathedral City City Council is reviewing its five-year strategic plan at the Doubletree by Hilton. The meeting lasted seven hours, giving public works time to discuss the status of its projects. The council hosts this meeting once a year. Residents sat with officials as they discussed delays, successes, and plans.
"I hear some detailing of what some of the challenges/problems are, but I'm not hearing a lot of solutions," says Cathedral City resident Jane Galloway. Some residents hope the 5-year strategic planning meeting will give them insight into how the city plans to fix some problems they face daily. "There are so many things lacking in the infrastructure; within the park system, there are no pools," says Cathedral City resident Michael Patchett. "There are some park improvements that are going to be on hold, some things related to our facilities master plan, upgrading our facilities, making sure things are maintained," says Cathedral City communications and event manager Ryan Hunt.
The city warned the community that many projects were stalled due to the damage caused by Tropical Storm Hilary and the costly months of cleanup. "We've had to defer a few things related to some road projects, we found other funding sources for a few things utilizing grants," says Hunt.
City staff discussed priorities like funding for parks and recreation services, accessibility to charging stations, and more. Hunt says there is not just one priority. The city is hoping to improve technology and infrastructure in the community. Hunt says residents should expect economic development within these five years. "A lot of shopping and retail developments, that Cathedral Cove center, which is a really exciting one, that 13 and a half acres across the casino, they're moving ground," says Hunt." I would love to see some forum set up or some opportunities to have dialogue with citizens and talk to us about what our needs are," says Galloway.
