Hiker rescue underway after medical emergency on trail in Palm Springs

First responders rescued a hiker who experienced a medical emergency while on a trail in Palm Springs Monday afternoon.

The incident happened at around 12:15 p.m. on the South Lykken Trail along the 3000 block of S Palm Canyon Trail.

Details on the medical emergency or the hiker were not immediately available. Police told News Channel 3 that the hiker was being transferred to the hospital.

Over the weekend, a 73-year-old local retired art teacher died after a medical emergency during a hike in Palm Springs.

Andrew Scott Hollinger was pronounced dead Saturday morning on Museum Trail. His cause of death remains under investigation and a possible medical emergency was being considered as the preliminary cause.

"This tragic event underscores the unpredictable nature of outdoor activities, even for the most experienced hikers,'' Palm Springs police wrote in a statement. "In light of this incident, the Palm Springs Police Department encourages all hikers to remain vigilant about their health and safety while enjoying the natural beauty of our trails."
