Unloaded firearm found at elementary school in Coachella

COACHELLA, Calif. (KESQ) - An unloaded firearm was found in a room at an elementary school in Coachella.
The discovery was made just before 6 p.m. at Valley View Elementary School. Deputies were called to the school regarding found property, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Office.
"The reporting party advised that something that appeared to be an airsoft gun had been found at the location. When deputies arrived, they learned the item was found in a room, which is not used often," the agency wrote in an email to News Channel 3. "After further inspection, deputies determined it was a real firearm, which was unloaded."
Deputies took possession of the firearm and did not identify any threat to the school.
The investigation remains ongoing.
