K-9 sniffs out $250K worth of liquid meth in a truck’s gas tank at Highway 86 checkpoint
A 39-year-old man was arrested after a Border Patrol K-9 led agents to find $250,000 worth of liquid methamphetamine over the weekend at the Highway 86 immigration checkpoint.
The arrest happened Saturday at around 4:45 p.m. The driver, a Mexican citizen, was referred to secondary inspection after a Border Patrol K-9 unit alerted agents to the driver-side wheel well of a truck.
According to Border Patrol, agents then checked the gas tank and noticed anomalies in the liquid inside the gas tank. The liquid tested positive for the characteristics of methamphetamine.
A total of 166.8 pounds of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of 250k was removed from the gas tank by a hazmat team, the agency revealed.
The driver was placed under arrest for the transportation of a controlled substance. The driver, vehicle, and narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further prosecution.
