Banning man arrested on suspicion of sexually abusing child
A 49-year-old Banning man is out on bail after being accused of sexually abusing a child.
The Banning Police Department said the investigation started on Feb. 23, when a report came in alleging the man was sexually abusing a teenager.
Police interviewed the child, who told investigators the sexual abuse began when they were 7 years old and had continued for several years after.
"The Detective Bureau assumed the investigation and during the course of the investigation, additional evidence and witness statements were obtained to support the listed charges," reads a news release by the Banning Police Department.
The suspect is facing multiple charges including; Lewd and Lascivious act with child under 14 years of age, Sexual Penetration w/ child under 14, Sexual Penetration w/ Foreign Object.
The Riverside County District Attorney's office confirmed that the case is under review. Charges have not been filed against the suspect as of March 5.
The suspect was arrested on the morning of Feb. 26 at his home in Banning. According to jail records, he was released that same day on $100,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 30
