City of Palm Springs proclaims “Splash House Day” for 10th year anniversary

Music enthusiasts and festival-goers this weekend will mark a decade of the sun-soaked dance music extravaganza Splash House.

Palm Springs city council officially declared August 11, 2023 as "Splash House Day," commemorating the 10th anniversary of the iconic dance music festival.

The proclamation ceremony took place Friday at the Renaissance hotel, ringing in the weekend with champagne toasts and a formal recognition of the event.

"Splash House has grown from one event in 2013 to three weekends spanning the summer
season, attracting a new generation to Palm Springs," the city's proclamation reads.

The journey from a local dream to a global phenomenon began in 2013 when the festival's founder and producer Tyler McLean and his family first launched Splash House. Over the years, the event has grown exponentially through a partnership with Goldenvoice, evolving into the remarkable spectacle that it is today.

"As a local born and raised right there, it was around the time when I was graduating college, there was so much excitement already happening in Palm Springs. And I said, 'I want to be part of that,'" said McLean.

"It's just the fun of producing an event, right? People walking away from an experience having so much fun and joy and can't stop talking about it. That is why we do what we do," he said.

Beyond the music and festivities, Splash House has made a significant impact on the local economy. Last year alone, the festival contributed $20 million dollars to the valley's economy, booking more than 50,000 room nights in local hotels and vacation rentals.

"That's great not only for those particular businesses but the people who work there. It really does help. And it also brings in these tourism dollars that allow us to do really needed renovations and upgrades to our city," said Mayor Grace Garner.
