Temperatures continue to climb ahead of an Excessive Heat Warning

The Excessive Heat Watch was upgraded to an Excessive Heat Warning early this morning. The warning will be in effect from 10AM Saturday until 8PM Sunday. Temperatures have the potential to reach 113°F during this time frame.

A ridge of high pressure is building to our east and southeast. This will continue to spread into the desert southwest, raising our temperatures slightly with each day.

Hurricane Jova briefly strengthened to a category five hurricane last night. It has since weakened slightly back down to a category four. Regardless, Jova is not forecast to have any significant direct impacts on the United States. However, some moisture from the storm will get drawn up and into Southern California over the next few days.

The extra moisture from Hurricane Jova will likely lead to some increased cloud cover over the valley. As well, there is a slightly increased chance for some showers to pop up over our local mountains.

We continue to see a gradual warming trend with each day leading up to this weekend. Temperatures will be around 5° or so above average this weekend during the Excessive Heat Warning. After this weekend's heat, we can expect a significant cool down in our temperatures as we enter the early to middle part of next week.

Today, the latest drought monitor was released and conditions have only continued to improve for California! Less than one quarter of one percent of the state is experiencing some sort of drought. Just over six percent of the state is experiencing abnormally dry conditions, but is not in a drought.
