Search For Missing Mt. San Jacinto Hiker Enters Third Day

The search for a hiker who went missing in Mount San Jacinto State Park will continue overnight, a sheriff’s detective said.

Brian Carrico, 57, a chiropractor from Redondo Beach, went hiking above the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway Saturday morning, and when he didn’t return when he said he would, family members contacted the State Parks department, which contacted the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

His car was found around 8:10 p.m. Saturday in the tramway parking lot.

A Los Angeles County helicopter assisted in the search Sunday, and ground search teams will continue looking for Carrico through the night, Riverside County sheriff’s Detective Matt Diaz told City News Service.

Searchers have looked for Carrico in Long Canyon and at higher elevations with steep terrain, where there’s two feet of fresh snow, icy conditions and periods of white-out from blowing snow and temperatures in the low 20s, Diaz said.

The search will continue nonstop if the weather permits, he said.

According to Carrico’s family, he was an experienced hiker and carried a daypack, food, water and appropriate clothing.

Carrico’s cellphone was last detected around noon Saturday, Diaz said.
