Interstate 10 Closure Scheduled For Monday Night

Eastbound Interstate 10 will be closed tonight at the Palm Drive/Gene Autry Trail intersection to allow workers to demolish the old overpass, according to the Riverside County Department of Transportation.

Traffic will be diverted onto the eastbound on- and off-ramps at the freeway exit from 8 p.m. until 4 a.m. tomorrow, said project manager Dennis Green. Depending on what is completed tonight, the freeway could also be closed again tomorrow night through early Wednesday, he said.

Motorists should expect around a 20-minute delay tonight.

“The work will take possibly two nights and then we’ll turn and go westbound,” Green said.

The westbound stretch of the freeway will be closed from 9 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday, he said.

During last week’s construction, traffic was shifted to the new overpass — which is halfway complete. Two lanes have been opened on the structure, which eventually will include six lanes with bike lanes in both directions.

“We built half a bridge, so we’ll tear down the existing bridge and then build the second half (of the new bridge) and then we’re done,” Green said.

After this week’s construction, there won’t be any more large-scale closures for another four months, he said.
