Truck driver dies in fiery crash
A truck driver was killed when the big rig he was driving went off state Route 86 and caught fire east of the Salton Sea, authorities said.
The crash north of 84th Avenue on the Torres Martinez Indian Reservation was reported at 12:08 a.m., Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson said. The northbound truck crashed into a drainage area in the median, and the driver’s body was found in the burned-out wreckage, she said. The fire was declared out 1:57 a.m., Hendrickson said.
The truck was hauling hay bales, some of which littered the highway after the crash, she said.
