National Weather Service issues flash flood warning to Coachella Valley

The National Weather service issued a flash flood warning throughout the Coachella Valley and surrounding areas around 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

Radar indicated very heavy rains…with rain rates locally of two inches per hour over the San Jacinto Mountains and adjacent parts of the Coachella Valley. This includes areas just west and south of Palm Springs. Palm Canyon, just south of Palm Springs, is at high risk of flash flooding.

Locations in the warning include but are not limited to Rancho Mirage and Cathedral City.

The NWS suggests certain precautionary/preparedness actions.Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross safely. Move to higher ground.
