State redistricting quirk means no representation for parts of the Valley

New District boundaries redrawn in 2011 have left some areas of the Coachella Valley without state representation.

Some Districts over-lapped old ones, but not all of them were up for election last year.

That is the situation for people living in part of Palm Springs and La Quinta, both locations are among the four million people around the state without representation. On the flip-side there are other parts of California that have two State Senators.

In the meantime, Republican Senator Bill Emmerson of Riverside will represent parts of Palm Springs, La Quinta and Idyllwild until things are sorted out in the 2014 election.
