Banning crash downed power lines

In Banning, a car plowed into a utility pole, knocked down lines and left an injured occupant trapped inside, a spokeswoman said.

Firefighters pried the wrecked vehicle open with a hydraulic device and freed the occupant, who was taken to an area hospital for treatment of moderate
injuries, Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann said.

The crash was reported shortly after midnight in the 6000 block of Joshua Palmer Way, where Hagemann said the lines were down. A Banning police dispatcher said she knew of no power outage calls in the area.

How the crash occurred was not immediately disclosed but a city work crew was sent to Joshua Palmer Way to repair the damaged lines, Hagemann said.
