$76,000 dollars in heroin discovered at checkpoint

Border patrol agents arrested a man Sunday after they discovered $76,000 dollars in heroin hidden near his groin area.

At around 5:30 p.m., a 25-year-old man in a grey 1994 Oldsmobile with Sinaloa, Mexico license plates was passing through theBorder Patrol checkpoint between Westmorland and Salton City when a canine team alerted agents to search the car near the drivers seat.

Agents patted down the man and discovered a vacuum sealed package of heroin wrapped near his groin area with white electrical tape.

The heroin weighed 2.39 pounds and agents estimate its value at $76,000 dollars.

The man, a Mexican citizen and holder of a B1/B2 Visa was arrested as the sole suspect in the case. The suspect, narcotics, and vehicle were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
