Navy probes report of gunman at San Diego base

Officials at the U.S. Naval Base Point Loma in San Diego are searching the base after an unconfirmed report of an armed individual there.

Navy spokesman Brian O’Rourke said Thursday that a shelter-in-place order was issued for parts of the base.

O’Rourke stresses that there are no reports of shots fired.

The Naval Criminal Investigative Service and Navy security personnel are on scene.

Home to the Third Fleet command, Naval Base Point Loma is one of the major military facilities located in the San Diego area.

Other major tenants include the Naval Mine and Anti Submarine Warfare Command, Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command, Fleet Intelligence Training Center Pacific, Tactical Training Group Pacific, Submarine Squadron 11, Sealift Logistics Command Pacific, Submarine Training Center Pacific Detachment and a number of submarines.
