Mysterious odor sends 6 to hospital
Six residents were hospitalized because a mysterious odor left them feeling ill in Mira Loma.
At around 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Riverside County firefighters got reports of an unusual odor at the 5200 block of Marlatt Street, near Jurupa Road.
Five people from one home and a neighbor were taken to a hospital with minor injuries, said April Newman of the Riverside County Fire Department.
Two other neighbors also felt ill but refused to go to the hospital.
Riverside County Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials Team was called in to investigate, setting up an incident command post at Etiwanda Avenue and Jurupa Road.
Despite initial readings from the team’s air monitors, the odor dissipated during the night. The source and nature of the odor is unknown, said Newman.
