Nine homeless after Thousand Palms house fire

Nine people are getting help from the Red Cross after a fire burned down their home in Thousand Palms Friday night, CALFire says.

The fire started around 7:30 p.m. in the 29-000 block of Desert Moon Drive. CALFire says the two-story, single family home is a complete loss. Two people in the home at the time were able to get out safely.

Power lines near the home hindered firefighters ability to fight the fire quickly. It took three hours to put out the flames.

The Red Cross was called in to help the four women and five men that were left homeless by the fire.

CALFire reports damages totaled more than $200,000.
