Teens arrested for trying to burglarize school
Two teenagers from Hemet were arrested in Palm Springs Tuesday night after they were found with burglary tools on the property of Katherine Finchy Elementary School, according to the Palm Springs Police Department.
The school is located at 777 Tachevah Drive.
Sgt. Harvey Reed said school security contacted police just before 11 p.m. to report suspicious suspects on the school grounds. When officers arrived they set up a perimeter around the school and they saw three suspects run away.
Officers caught two of the three suspects; 18-year-old Theron Leon Chiles and a 16-year-old boy.
Officers found burglary tools on the suspects and the investigation revealed they were intending to steal laptops and iPads from a classroom, Sgt. Reed said in the release.
Chiles was booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning and the 16-year-old was taken to Indio Juvenile Hall. The third suspect hasn’t been identified yet.
Officers said the arrest violations include felony second degree attempted burglary, and misdemeanors for possession of burglary tools and resisting a peace officer.
If anyone has information about the third suspect, they can call the Palm Springs Police Department at 760-323-8116.
