Two burned in Beaumont ‘honey oil’ fire

Cal Fire arson investigators are looking into a fire caused during a butane “honey oil” lab explosion at a building in Beaumont Sunday evening.

Two people were seriously burned and taken to the hospital for treatment of major and moderate injuries.

Honey oil, or hash oil, is obtained through a dangerous marijuana extraction process.

The blaze was reported at 7:34 p.m. in the 800 block of Palm Avenue, according to Jennifer Fuhrman of the Riverside County Fire Department.

Initial reports showed the fire was out by the time firefighters arrived and had been contained to the structure’s exterior, Fuhrman said. Although a later dispatch indicated the fire had spread into an interior wall.

About $5,000 in damage was done to the building.
