Traffic Alert: Freeway closure in Indio

UPDATE: All freeway lanes were reopened at 6:00 a.m., and traffic was returning to normal. The eastbound Jefferson exit remains closed to traffic.

All lanes of Interstate 10 eastbound were closed early Friday morning as crews worked to pour concrete for an exit ramp.

The work was underway at the Jefferson Street Interchange.

Traffic was being detoured off the eastbound freeway lanes at Jefferson Street using the temporary eastbound exit ramp.

Motorists were being detoured to Varner Road, then back onto the freeway at Monroe Street.

Motorists headed to the freeway from Indio Boulevard were having to merge into the detour stream in order to get across the overpass.

Traffic was backing up on the freeway about a mile in the eastbound lanes.

Westbound traffic was not impacted.

Local elected leaders and dignitaries gathered for a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the overpass opening last Thursday.
