Two men arrested for burglaries in Palm Springs

Palm Springs police make two burglary arrests this week.

The first arrest was for a burglary that happened on April 20 at around 9 p.m. at a hotel in downtown Palm Springs. Police say Steven Baker, a resident of Los Angeles, gained access to a room and took several items of clothing and electronics.

Officers reviewed the surveillance video and identified Baker as a suspect. According to a news release by PSPD, on April 22, Baker returned to the hotel and pretended to be a guest. Staff recognized him and called PSPD. Officers arrived on scene and detained Baker who was wearing the victim’s jacket. Baker was arrested for burglary and has been booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning.

The second arrested stemmed from a burglary at a residence on the 2500 block of Cahuilla Hills Drive on April 22 at around 11:30 am. Police say the homeowner reported a burglar, later identified to be Keshon Manning of Desert Hot Springs, was inside his home. The victim chased Manning and saw him get into a silver BMW Sedan. The homeowner was able to get the license plate number and the direction the vehicle was heading towards.

Officers later spotted that vehicle driving northbound on Farrell Drive near Alejo Road. They stopped the vehicle at the DMV parking lot and detained two occupants. According to PSPD, during the investigation, officers found evidence of the Cahuilla Hills burglary. Manning was also identified by the homeowner. The other occupant in the vehicle was released pending further investigation.

PSPD is currently investigating four other burglaries in the same neighborhood, the first of which occurred on April 14. They are looking into the possibility that Manning may be responsible for these as well. Anyone with information about Mr. Manning and his involvement in recent burglaries are asked to call the Palm Springs Police Department Burglary Unit at 760-778-8411.

Palm Springs police said both incidents are unrelated to each other.
