Captain Misty Reynolds to command Thermal Sheriff’s station
Captain Misty Reynolds to take command of Thermal Sheriff’s station, Sheriff Stan Sniff announced Monday.
Reynolds will replace Captain Roy Grace, who is retiring following a 30-year career with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
The move will take effect April 26.
Reynolds will service the eastern half of the Coachella Valley, which includes Coachella and La Quinta, Southern Coachella Valley Community Services District, and various unincorporated communities.
La Quinta City Manager Frank Spevacek stated, “We value her local community perspective and experience.” The city of Coachella’s City Manager William Pattison also welcomes Captain Reynolds by stating, “The City of Coachella embraces Captain Reynolds as our Chief of Police who has established strong ties to the community through her commitment to outreach and building relationships. We look forward to working together for a better Coachella.”
Reynolds is a 21-year veteran of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. She began her career in 1997 at the Indio Jail. In January of 1999, she transferred to patrol at the Palm Desert Station and worked in the cities of Palm Desert, Indian Wells, Rancho Mirage and the unincorporated county areas.
In 2002, she was assigned to the C.C.A.T. (Career Criminal Apprehension Team) and was promoted to Senior Deputy. In 2004, she was promoted to Corporal within the Palm Desert Station. In January 2005, she promoted to Detective and was assigned to the Professional Standards Bureau (PSB).
In 2007, Reynolds was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and returned to the Palm Desert Station where she worked as a patrol supervisor. In addition to Patrol Operations, she also supervised the Palm Desert Special Enforcement Team (SET) and was the Administrative Sergeant for the City of Palm Desert.
In March 2012, Reynolds was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and was assigned to the administrative position within the Thermal Sheriff’s Station. In February 2014, she was reassigned to manage the Coachella Police contract within the Thermal Station and assumed the responsibility as the Assistant Police Chief for the City of Coachella. As a Lieutenant, Reynolds supervised the deputies assigned to the Southern Coachella Valley Community Services District Team (SCVCSD), as well as the Tribal and Agricultural Liaison deputies. Reynolds also supervised the School Resource Officers (SRO) assigned to the Coachella Valley Unified School District (CVUSD).
In April 2017, Reynolds was transferred to the Indio Jail as a Lieutenant where she oversaw Jail Operations. Since being promoted to Captain in August 2017, Reynolds has commanded both the Indio and Blythe Jails.
She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences from Chapman University and a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from the American Military University. She is a member of the Coachella East Rotary and the Women Leaders Forum. She serves as a board member for Operation SafeHouse. She is married and has two children.
Reynolds and her family reside in the Coachella Valley.
