CBS Local 2 “Stands for You” How we helped a man resolve his dispute with UPS and Postal Annex
It was February 6th, at the Postal Annex on Jefferson Street in La Quinta, that David Holtzman says he dropped off two packages for shipment.
“If they take a package, they should have a responsibility for it,” said Holtzman.
Holtzman says one package made it to the final destination in Cincinnati.
But the other package, 9 bottles of wine, sent to a client in Atlanta, never arrived.
“We had some high-end wine that he was going to give to his better customers,” said Holtzman.
When he first inquired, Holtzman says neither Postal Annex, nor UPS could tell him what happened to his wine shipment, which he says was Caymus and Franciscan.
He valued the package at $500, and says the shipment was insured.
The retiree says when he dropped off his pacakges at the store, an employee was behind the counter, along with the manager. Fabian.
“I was very annoyed. I don’t want any of my friends to get caught in a situation that i’m caught in,” said Holtzman.
Frustrated by not getting answers, or a refund from Postal Annex or UPS, Holtzman contacted CBS Local 2, and asked us to “stand for him”.
I went to the Postal Annex, but the manager Fabian would not comment.
“In this case, the store manager, refusing to step up to the plate and take responsibility, is just totally wrong,” said Holtzman.
I then contacted a media relations representative at UPS and asked the company to figure out what happened to Hotlzman’s package, and they still couldn’t find it.
As a result, they agreed to pay his claim.
“Packages can go missing, and mistakes happen. But, someone has to step up and be responsible for an error that happens,” said Holtzman.
In refunding Holtzman $500, a UPS media relations representative, said, “the package in question doesn’t show in the UPS shipping systems that it was scanned as being picked up from the UPS Authorized Shipping Outlet (ASO), Postal Annex.”
Also, in a twist, UPS also said that Holtzman “did not declare that he was shipping wine”.
The statement continued: “If he did, the UPS ASO would not have processed the shipment as this outlet is not licensed to ship wine.”
Holtzman says he was not aware of laws and rules when it comes to shipping wine.
But, he is now.
