Palm Desert’s small business can begin applying for forgivable loans on Wednesday

Starting on Wednesday, small businesses in Palm Desert will be able to submit an application for an interest-free loan through the Unite Palm Desert Economic Relief package.

The city announced the first phase of the loan program which will provide $1 million in city funds to support restaurants, retail, service industries, and small businesses. In total, the program is expected to deliver up to $3 million in public support for the community.

The city's small businesses will be able to receive forgivable loans of up to $25,000. This applies to businesses with no more than 25 employees.

Applications will be accepted through June 3, 2020.

Unite Palm Springs is a campaign launched to support Palm Desert residents and its businesses during the coronavirus pandemic. The campaign includes a variety of economic stimulus initiatives and includes several community and regional partners including: FIND Food Bank; the Palm Desert Area Chamber of Commerce; El Paseo Parking & Business Improvement District; Joslyn Center; Living Desert Zoo & Botanical Gardens; McCallum Theatre; Palm Desert High School; and Desert Willow Golf Resort.

"Extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures and through programs such as Unite Palm Desert, as well as countless acts of generosity and compassion happening across our community every day, our City is rising and uniting to meet the challenge," said City Manager Lauri Aylaian.
