WATCH: Cat stuck between two walls in Cathedral City gets rescued

Officers from the Riverside County Department of Animal Services rescued a cat that somehow managed to get herself stuck between two brick walls in Cathedral City.

Tuesday morning, Officers Matthew Perez was called to the 67100 block of Rando Road after a resident reported hearing the cat meowing.

Officer Perez said whenever he tried to free the cat, the feline would, "ball up and make itself bigger."

Perez called a supervisor and suggested sedating the cat so it would remain calm. Sgt. Miguel Hernandez dispatched Officer Cole Woods with the sedative. Officer Woods was also called out to help with the rescue.

After tranquilizing the cat, the officers were able to get the control panel around her two back legs and successfully pull her out of the walls.

The cat, a 6-year-old, female diluted calico, was transported for treatment and care at the Coachella Valley Animal Campus in Thousand Palms.

Registered Veterinary Technician Emily Vialpando provided the cat fluids and applied lubricant to her eyes.

"I am so happy our officers safely saved this cat and we gave her the veterinary care she needed,” Animal Services Director Julie Bank said. "The great mystery is just how did this cat get stuck? Regardless, we’re going to do everything we can to get her back to her rightful owner."

One of the Coachella Valley Animal Campus technicians, Stephanie Castaneda, planned to revisit the neighborhood to see if she could locate the owner.

"We want to remind our pet owners to microchip their pets," Bank said. "A microchipped pet can be reunited with its owner much faster."

Earlier this week the Coachella Valley Animal Campus treated a dog that was found with apparent chemical burns. The Department of Animal Services continues to ask the public for any information related to this case.
