Voter concerns after the state’s tracking system sends wrong mailing date

Numerous Riverside County residents who have checked the state's BallotTrax website have been wondering where their ballot is.

“I am a little concerned its been a little crazy this year," said Sean Wood.

“I am concerned about not getting it friends in other counties have received it, I have been checking twice a day," said John Levenson.

But some voters have been tracking it.

“Email provided a link to go to the site, to track my ballot, which I did. And that site told me the ballot had been mailed," said Jeffrey Mauk.

The BallotTrax website shows that ballots were sent out on September 28, nearly a week and a half ago.

“So I called the Riverside County registrar's voters who confirmed in fact that the September 28th date that everyone was receiving was just a universal date that was being posted And the individual counties will be sending out their ballots on their own schedule," said Mark.

The Riverside County Registrar's Office confirmed that this was an error by the state and ballots were indeed sent out on Oct. 5, as originally announced by the Registrar's Office.

And the county is working with state to send out a correction. But Mauk said he was told to expect ballot to arrive in 10 days.

“My concern was not only were people panicking, thinking their ballots were delayed or missing because of the misinformation, but also the fact that, it was taking 10 days at this point in time just to receive a ballot," said Mauk.

Not only are people worried about not getting their ballot, but we were told by an employee at the USPS in Palm Springs that they are working hard to get all the ballots out. USPS also sent us this statement that reads in part:

"The U.S. Postal Service’s number one priority between now and the November election is the secure, timely delivery of the nation’s Election Mail. Throughout every election cycle, the Postal Service works with state and local election officials to ensure the timely delivery of Election Mail."

“I have faith in the post office, I have worked for the post office for 25 years and retired and I know once they get it. I’ll get it," said John Foster.

The mailing process has been completed according to Rebecca Spencer of the Registrar's office.

Spencer said "All 1.2 million ballots are in the mail. We started mailing vote-by-mail ballots on 10/5/2020. Ballots have gone in the mail daily since Monday and the mailing process completed on Friday. We are working with the state to send out updated Ballot Trax notifications."
