Authorities identify man murdered in Thousand Palms, search for suspect continues

The Riverside County Coroner's office has identified a man shot and killed early Friday morning in Thousand Palms.

The shooting happened on the 73000 block of Stanton Drive in Thousand Palms. Deputies were notified of the shooting shortly after 2 a.m., according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

The victim was identified as Edward Pierce, 39, of Thousand Palms.

Residents described the area as a quiet neighborhood, and were surprised to know a murder investigation happened so close to home.

"I havent heard anything like this over here in this area," said Thousand Palms resident, Abram Bury.

"This is the first time I've seen or heard a gun shooting in the neighborhood right here," said Thousand Palms resident, George Ruppert.

Many people woke up to bright lights and crime scene tape sectioning off the street.

"When I saw the sirens I walked out here, noticed the tape and I realized it was a more serious situation than I expected," said Bury.

Detectives remained at the scene until about 1:30 Friday afternoon. The coroner's office was also seen carrying a gurney inside the home.

"Definitely makes me feel unsafe," said Ruppert.

Investigators say the suspect(s) fled the area prior to deputies arrival and are still outstanding.
