Disney shares new images of Neighborhood Parks at Rancho Mirage’s Cotino community

Disney

Disney shared new images of the Neighborhood Parks that will be at Cotino in Rancho Mirage, the very first Storyliving by Disney community.

Initial plans for the first “chapter” of the community’s story include more than 300 homes and a collection of community parks set in the heart of the Coachella Valley. In June, the Rancho Mirage Planning Commission approved the design plans for the community's homes.

On Wednesday, Disney gave us our first look at the "Longtable Park" residences, an area dedicated to adults 55+.

According to Disney, the name "Longtable Park" is inspired by the experiences that originally drew Walt to the Coachella Valley. Walt called the Coachella Valley his "laughing place." He'd escape here to unwind and reignite his imagination.

"When he visited the area, he often enjoyed desert activities in the morning and joined his neighbors for a group breakfast and good conversation around a friendly table," reads Disney's announcement.

According to Disney, Longtable Park residents will have exclusive access to a dedicated gathering place, Longtable Park. The space will bring people together around a large, centerpiece table surrounded by beautiful palo verde and olive trees along with shaded seating and barbecue grills – the perfect place to spend time with friends and family.

Speaking of Walt's "laughing place." It actually inspired the name of a dog park that will be inside Cotino.

Residents of all ages and their favorite four-legged friends can spend the day playing at Laughing Place Ranch. Designed to celebrate Walt’s love for horses, this equestrian-themed dog park will feature separate play areas where small and large pets can jump and gallop the day away.

More announcements on Cotino are expected to come out soon. Stay with News Channel 3 for continuing coverage.

Pre-sales appointments to discuss additional residential details including floorplans, home designs and pricing are anticipated to begin later this year prior to the launch of home sales.

In April 2022, during the groundbreaking ceremony, Disney officials said that homes in Cotino will begin to sell this year, with the first people being able to move in by 2024.

What is Cotino?

Cotino is the first planned community from Storyliving by Disney.

Cotino is described by developers as "a dynamic, creative oasis set within the stunning landscape of Palm Springs." The development plans to bring "Disney magic" to a new neighborhood in Rancho Mirage.

Alongside private homes, there will be a hotel, entertainment, shopping, and dining. It's all planned to surround a 24-acre lagoon. There will even be a neighborhood specially designed for adults 55 and older.

In the past, the reaction from local residents has been split. Some have voiced concerns about traffic, water usage, and the affect on affordable housing. Others have shared excitement for the development.

In March 2023, Cotino shared the first renderings of the "Parr House," a distinct location inspired by the midcentury home of the famous family of superheroes in Disney and Pixar’s "Incredibles 2."

Separate from the private clubhouse, there will be a beach park, accessible to the public with the purchase of a day pass.
