Coachella extends eviction moratorium & suspension of water service shutoffs
The Coachella City Council passed an extension on a moratorium that prevents evictions of those affected by the coronavirus pandemic and a suspension of water shutoffs and late fees.
The city's eviction moratorium was extended to June 30.
Much like Palm Springs' moratorium, Coachella's order goes farther than the state's. Tenants at residential and commercial properties in Coachella struggling to pay their bills due to coronavirus can't be evicted/foreclosed upon.
Residents have to notify their landlords if they need to temporarily suspend payments. Residents are still required to make arrangements to pay the missed payments within six months after the end of the current State of Emergency.
Coachella's moratorium will remain in place even if the state's order is lifted. The state's moratorium expires on May 31 and Governor Gavin Newsom has not announced whether it will also be extended.
Gov. Newsom will hold a news conference on Friday which you can watch live at Noon on News Channel 3 or on our app, which is on the Apple Store or Google Play.
The Coachella City Council also approved an extension on a temporary suspension of residential water service shutoffs due to late or delinquent payments. This includes any along with new late payment charges through the end of June.
