Dr. Kelly May-Vollmar appointed as new DSUSD Superintendent
The Desert Sands Unified School District officially has its next superintendent.
On Tuesday, the DSUSD Board of Education voted to appoint longtime Desert Sands educator Dr. Kelly May-Vollmar as the new superintendent of the district.
May-Vollmar's contract will run until 2025 with a base salary of $282,000, however, it could be increased yearly, according to the district report.
May-Vollmar previously served as the district's assistant superintendent of educational services since 2019. Over the past 18 years, she has served in various roles, including elementary school principal, academic coach and IB coordinator, and classroom teacher.
DSUSD board president Ana Conover said in a statement, “Dr. May-Vollmar’s extensive knowledge of the district and her positive relationship with students, staff, and community sets the stage for a smooth transition in leadership.”
Her first day as Superintendent will be on July 1, 2022.
May-Vollmar takes over for Scott Bailey, who announced his retirement in November.
Bailey has held the position since 2017.
