Sold: Two Bunch Palms Resort And Spa
The famed Two Bunch Palms Resort and Spa has been sold, and it is set for a multimillion-dollar renovation, according to Tony Calsolaro, the general manager.
An investment team of Los Angeles movie producers, L.A. Investment Group, bought the property, and another L.A.-based group, Cohen and Associates, will manage the operations.
The renovation will begin immediately, said Calsolaro.
The resort’s presence in Desert Hot Springs dates back to the 1920s.
It’s more than 100 miles away from Hollywood, but for decades, Hollywood stars have been making the trip down to the desert to spend time at the 270-acre resort.
The property features 52 private bungalows, with many of them having back yards or patios.
The spa is famous for its mudbaths and the abundance of award-winning mineral water in Desert Hot Springs, and it also was once reportedly Al Capone’s getaway.
“He, at one point or another, met with Gladys Walton, who is a famous silent film actress,” said Calsolaro. “They had a son named John, and John does live here in Palm Springs, and up until here a year ago, (he) used to do presentations once a week and told the story of his dad, and how he stayed here.”
The renovation will include building new 3,000-square-foot villas, senior housing and a post-operative surgery rehab facility.
The owners also want to market a new line of spa products and beverages made from the local mineral waters.
